I will always say, “Daily keep your eyes on the Resurrection because nothing this side of Glory, makes any sense.” I believe with my whole being. These past couple months have not made any sense whatsoever, it seems. Viruses make no sense. Shutdowns make no sense. No Mass. No Church activities. No Sacraments. None of this makes any sense. It doesn’t, unless we look past it to the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The passion, death and burial of Jesus Christ doesn’t make any sense, unless we look beyond to the Resurrection. The tomb doesn’t make any sense, unless we look beyond to the Resurrection. Things in the world make no sense unless we look beyond to the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Why? What for? Resurrection speaks of new life. We must always be ready to recall and speak and celebrate new life in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, if we are to survive anything that comes our way in the human condition. And we all know, “stuff” always happens in the human condition, it always has. The passion, death and burial of Jesus Christ, the vicious Coronavirus, for instance. So, let us all, this Easter Sunday and beyond, put the emphasis where it should be, on the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and nothing else. Jesus testified to the truth. Jesus turned tragedy into triumph. Jesus turned viciousness into victory. All his sufferings led to a new and blessed life. That’s why look forward not back. We feared we would miss it, but we didn’t. Jesus is Risen! It’s Easter. Jesus speaks. Look beyond right now, look ahead, look to the future. We have before us, now, the opportunity to live life with the Resurrection on the horizon. The Resurrection is not something you can see in the review mirror. Don’t look back. Don’t just look at all that doesn’t make sense, at all the suffering and pain and problems, the loss of hope, sacrifices, broken promise and broken plans. Jesus will resurrect all of this into new life. He is here, he is risen, he is with us always, to resurrect us and everything that happens in the human condition into new life. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ shines in the darkness. That’s something to talk about. Don’t just talk about all the gloom and doom, disease and disaster. Talk about it, share it, yes, but in the light of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. That’s the Good News. Do not be afraid. Proclaim the Good News! The Holy Spirit empowers us to go out and evangelize the world by sharing the Resurrection with anyone willing to listen. Even though we can’t be together, people are listening. Talk. Jesus will resurrect all that we fear now, all that we suffer now, all that breaks us down and tears us apart now. Keep hope alive. Keep your focus on the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. When we are on the other side of this, we can testify to the truth like we have never testified before. Talk. Testify. After all, IT’S EASTER! With us or without us, IT’S EASTER! ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA!
