May's Work of Mercy:
To Feed the Hungry
For our work of mercy for May, we will be assembling Blessing Bags—zippered bags filled with food to hand out to the needy—on Saturday, May 14, at 6pm at XII
Donations are needed to fill the bags. At the entrance of each of our churches you will find a table with cards listing the donations needed. You are invited to choose one or more cards — fill out your name on the top card and drop it in the box/basket — keep the duplicate card as a reminder. We ask that donations be returned to the same area by Sunday, May 8.
Join us for a picnic and assembling the bags on Saturday, May 14 — this is a family event! We’ll begin with grilled hot dogs, chips, and ice cream sundaes, provided by Twelve Apostles’ Knights of Columbus and Women’s Group, at 6pm, followed by assembling the bags. Those who wish will be invited to take bags to distribute to the needy as desired. Our goal is to fill at least 200 bags. All are invited!
Our Corporal Work of Mercy for May: To Feed the Hungry
The world produces enough food to feed everyone in the world, but each day, hundreds of millions of people are hungry because they do not have the land to grow food or the money to purchase it. Where can we learn more about hunger? How can we help?
What does to mean to “feed” someone – and what does it mean to be hungry?
You might “feed” someone by providing direct support through a food bank or food pantry:
Luke 3:11: And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.”
The Christmas Banquet was a wonderful event, and Holy Trinity and Twelve Apostles generously provided over 1000 personal items for inmates gift bags. Perhaps more importantly, we made sure that each of the children of the inmates, regardless of their age, had a wonderful gift from their Dad to open that day.
Gina Hanna of Beauty for Ashes Ministry prepared a short video to share special moments at the banquet with us. She said, "I hope this video captures the impact that you and your parishes had on these men and their families. It was such a blessing to partner with you this year."
